My Mitsubishi system wasn't responsive and I couldn't figure out the problem. Carlos from Akian came through and checked it out. We found out the breaker was the issue. They got an electrician on site and replaced the breaker within an hour. Carlos also ran a diagnostic and got my system running perfectly. Great communication and follow through. Definitely reccomend.

Very happy with the service. The plumber arrived on time, explained everything that would be done and approximately how long it would take. He was very courteous and put a tarp down and wore shoe coverings while working. I will definitely use this company again.

Update to the update. I am sticking with Akian. They are a big company with many competent technicians. They respond timely. They do their best to make customers happy. It's hard to know when things fail where the fault falls. But they have been responsive and they have fixed issues with little to no charge as appropriate. See below for history. ---- Update to my original review. Some years later, after having them install new heater, water heater, and AC. The heater that akian has since installed 3 years ago has run into problems every year since. One time, one of the vent pipes was not attached properly. It was under 1year since the installation so they fixed it for free. Nex time, it was an issue with exhaust piping. Must have been some other installation errors but since it had been more than a year since installation; we were charged for the repair. And now again, we have cold air blowing from the system and I am calling them. Side story. For the exhaust issue, the first technician they sent misidentified the problem claiming it was because our vents were not fully open. Then Manny, the technician who I praised in my original review was sent; he identified and corrected the problem. So turns out not everyone in their employ is the same. ------- I call about a heating system emergency; our furnace is broken on a cold week. Their earliest availability is in four days. But since it is an emergency, they make some calls, and send over someone immediately. In this day and age, when HVAC companies rarely respond or show up. Manny comes over, identifies the problem, and fixes it. All along, he is honest about what he may or may not be able to do. We are lucky, the current problem was solvable. But he points out that the heater is old. He lays out options for the future; we may replace the flame sensor that caused the current problem if the same issue arises; we should consider a complete system replacements; and he has identified a list of worn out parts if we want to try to extend life of existing system. No pushiness, no BS, just reasonable opinions. I can't know if all their technicians are as knowledgable and capable as Manny. But next time we have HVAC needs, we are calling Akian again.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AT ALL! The company quoted me a $129 diagnostic fee. However, when the technician arrived, he barely did anything other than take a quick look at the equipment. He then told me that the $129 only covered his less-than-30-minute inspection, and that if I wanted any further service, I would have to pay an additional $249. This was completely different from the information I received when I initially contacted the company. To make matters worse, the technician refused to provide me with a quote. I explained that I did not want to be nickel-and-dimed with one charge after another, but he showed absolutely no understanding. His attitude was extremely unprofessional. He acted as though he would refuse to do anything at all unless I agreed to pay the additional $249. In the end, I decided to pay the $129 just to get him to leave. This was an incredibly frustrating experience, and I felt pressured into paying for virtually nothing. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. I strongly recommend avoiding this company’s services!

Disappointing Experience – Unexpected Fees and Poor Communication I scheduled an HVAC diagnostic appointment with Akian after being told by their office that the diagnostic fee would be waived if I decided to proceed with the recommended repair after receiving an estimate. However, when the technician arrived, I was told a significantly higher diagnostic fee would apply, that it would not be waived even if I proceeded with the repair, and that I would not receive a repair estimate unless I agreed to pay the higher fee. This was completely different from what had been communicated when I scheduled the appointment. My main frustration is the lack of communication and transparency between the office and the technician. I specifically confirmed the pricing and process before booking so I could make an informed decision about whether to proceed with repairs. Instead, I was put in an uncomfortable position during the appointment.

I called Akian plumbing to help me identify a leak. I had already opened up the ceiling of the floor below my bathroom, and they found the toilet flange was deteriorated. They came back in two days to remove the toilet and replace the flange which has resolved the leak. Scheduling was easy with them, and they were great at communicating arrival times and costs before starting the work. Highly recommended.

Absolutely horrible. Repeatedly reschedules due to their own errors and takes multiple trips to fix an issue to drive up their hours. Customer service is terrible and unresponsive after 4:30 and they offer no weekend support. We have been without hot water for over two weeks because of the company but charged over $1000+.

I called to ask for a general price range for replacing a P-trap. They told me they would not provide any pricing information unless they first sent a master plumber out for a $120 service call. I even asked what the *lowest* possible cost for a basic P-trap replacement would be, just so I could have some idea of what to expect, and they still refused to answer. That made me uncomfortable. I understand that an exact quote may require seeing the job in person, but refusing to provide even a starting price or rough range felt unnecessarily vague. I didn't feel comfortable paying $120 upfront without having any idea what I might ultimately be charged, so I decided not to move forward with them.

Sean and Andrew were great. I came home from work one day to discover water damage to my bathroom ceiling. Sean came out quickly to assess the situation. He was able to get someone out to remediate right away. Once the cleanup was complete, Andrew came out to do some further investigate and was able to successfully identify the water source in my very old condo building in Brighton. Both were very friendly and professional. Highly recommended!

So wanted to give an update to a 2 star review i left for Akian for work done about a month ago. I had two gripes: Call center customer service and dispatch and high pricing. I have to give their management credit: They saw my review, reached out and yesterday service manage Jeff called me. It's rare these days for someone to really listen to how things looked on my side of the road and to Jeff's credit he did that. Not only that we reached and agreement regarding what i felt was high pricing two two of the three components they replaced on my AC system. In addition he mentioned that they are moving away from the foreign call center customer service--this is a good thing. Who wants to feel if they get disconnected they can't call the person back? All this reassured me that despite some issues they are getting themselves on track and that they cared enough to make things right for me.

Advanced Circuit Planning for Clean Energy Transitions

Transitioning to an energy-efficient lifestyle places unique performance demands on your home’s existing breaker configurations. If your infrastructure lacks modern load-balancing components, adding heavy-draw appliances can lead to frequent circuit disruptions or safety risks.

Installing a Level 2 vehicle docking station requires a dedicated 240-volt branch line paired with an isolated double-pole circuit breaker. Our expert configurations ensure your new green energy vehicle charges rapidly overnight without causing any visual flickering across your interior lighting circuits or overloading local branch nodes.

Many charming local properties still operate on outdated electrical service boxes that cannot handle the simultaneous power draws of modern household appliances. Upgrading to a premium, high-capacity panel eliminates structural bottlenecks, drops risk levels for electrical fires, and provides ample expansion space for future home renovations.

Heavy snow and falling branches regularly disrupt overhead power lines across the region, turning a comfortable home cold within hours. A professional standby generator installation detects voltage drops instantly, engaging an automated transfer switch to redirect clean emergency power to critical heating systems and refrigeration loops.

Dedicated Infrastructure for Massive Thermal Storage Units

Running a high-capacity traditional storage tank water heater places a prolonged, highly demanding continuous load on a home’s power network. Attempting to tie these high-wattage heating elements into pre-existing, shared household circuits is a recipe for overheated wires and degraded terminal connections. Our licensed specialists prevent these structural overloads by running isolated, dedicated lines straight from your main distribution center directly to your thermal storage equipment. By selecting heavy-gauge conductors and matching them to exact manufacturer specifications, we ensure your storage tank draws a consistent, safe current that optimizes recovery times and prevents unnecessary wear on surrounding household electronics.

Multi-Breaker Balancing for High-Amp On-Demand Tankless Systems

Transitioning to an on-demand tankless water heater offers an endless supply of hot water, but activating these high-efficiency systems triggers an instantaneous spike in power consumption. To heat fast-moving cold water in a fraction of a second, an electric tankless unit frequently requires an enormous influx of current that demands multiple multi-pole circuit breakers working in perfect unison. Our master electricians carry out comprehensive residential load calculations to evaluate the total amperage headroom of your property. If needed, we configure heavy-duty subpanels or replace obsolete bus bars, establishing an electrical framework that allows your tankless heater to operate at peak performance without disrupting your home’s power balance.

Weatherproof Safety Switches for External HVAC and Plumbing Machinery

Local building codes strictly dictate that all large-scale mechanical heating systems, exterior heat pumps, and high-voltage water heating setups must feature an independent, weatherproof safety disconnect box. This regulatory component must be mounted within clear line of sight of the machinery, enabling anyone servicing the equipment to completely cut off the power supply on-site before executing repairs. If your current mechanical setup features an aged, corroded, or missing exterior switch, our expert crews will install a rugged, code-compliant outdoor disconnect enclosure to protect your property and ensure full structural alignment with municipal regulations.

Power Regulation and Voltage Testing for Hybrid Heat Pump Loops

Eco-friendly hybrid heat pump water heaters deliver exceptional energy savings by pairing an advanced, top-mounted compressor with secondary backup heating elements. Because this dual-source design switches dynamically between mechanical modes, it creates unique voltage fluctuations whenever the compressor cycles on during freezing weather. Our technicians utilize specialized digital multimeters to map out your line voltage, ensuring the internal controls receive balanced, steady power. By running precise, dedicated 240-volt lines with proper grounding pathways, we protect your premium hybrid investment from sudden power surges and guarantee flawless operation during peak New England winters.

Dual-Trade Problem Solving and Compliance Verification

When a household appliance or water heating unit breaks down, the root cause is frequently a complex blend of plumbing leaks and compromised electrical controls. Hiring separate contractors often results in misdiagnosed issues, scheduling delays, and inflated repair costs. Because the technical team at Akian holds professional credentials across multiple trades, we diagnose the intersections of water flow and high-voltage systems seamlessly. Whether your system needs new immersion heating elements, updated structural grounding, or a replacement control board, we provide a unified solution. We manage all required municipal permits across Suffolk County and Middlesex County, delivering a fast, code-compliant service that protects your property value.

Modern Water Heaters Challenge Old Lexington Electrical Systems' Capacity

In Lexington's historical homes, outdated electrical panels often struggle to support modern water heaters' power demands. Expert electrical engineers emphasize that older systems were not designed to handle the increased load of contemporary appliances, leading to potential overloads and safety hazards. As a trusted authority in residential electrical systems, we advocate for thorough assessments and upgrades to ensure both efficiency and safety in these cherished historic properties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my historic Lexington home require an electrical panel upgrade for modern equipment?

Many classic properties across Middlesex County operate on outdated electrical service boxes capped at 100 amps or less. Modern electronics, clean-energy water heaters, and high-speed car chargers place continuous, heavy demands on a system. Upgrading your service box removes power delivery bottlenecks, prevents breaker overloads, and protects vintage architecture from severe electrical fire risks.

What are the circuit requirements for electric tankless water heaters?

Because tankless setups instantly heat water on demand, they create short but severe spikes in power usage. Meeting these requirements usually requires multiple multi-pole circuit breakers working together on a dedicated secondary subpanel. Our master electricians perform structural load calculations to confirm your home can supply this continuous current without flickering your interior lights.

Why do local building codes require an outdoor weatherproof safety disconnect box?

Municipal electrical codes mandate that large external equipment—like hybrid heat pump water heaters and outdoor mechanical systems—must have a line-of-sight cutoff switch. A rugged, weatherproof disconnect box allows plumbing and electrical technicians to completely isolate dangerous high-voltage power at the device before running maintenance, keeping your home safe and fully code-compliant.

How can I tell if my existing grid can handle an EV charger and a hybrid heat pump?

Both Level 2 EV charging stations and eco-friendly hybrid heat pumps require dedicated 240-volt branch lines to operate efficiently. Our technicians use digital multimeters to trace your existing electrical load balance and line voltage. This diagnosis tells us if your main breaker panel can absorb the simultaneous load or if your property needs localized wiring distribution modifications.

Does Akian pull municipal electrical permits for residential projects in Lexington, MA?

Yes, absolutely. Akian operates as a multi-licensed, dual-trade contractor across the Greater Massachusetts Area, including Suffolk County and Middlesex County. We file all structural paperwork, handle local building department compliance, and pull required municipal permits for everything from major electrical rewiring to complete backup generator installations.
