We were happy with the plumbing work done by George A, replacing several shutoff valves, including the house main. He was helpful in explaining how we should coordinate with the water department. - - - - Less than a week later, we had a second great experience with Akian. We were very pleased with the bathroom plumbing work done by Chase D. and Jaelin M. They made every effort to first repair the old dripping shower/tub fixture, but found that was not possible and explained why. They were quickly able to pivot to a replacement, clearly explaining what options were available and how it would be accomplished by cutting a hole in the closet wall behind the tub. They took care to cut a neat hole and cleaned up the resulting dust. We also had the old bathroom sink faucet replaced. They encountered difficulties due to the age of these fixtures, but Chase and Jaelin were able to handle them with ease, replacing additional pipes when needed. They were happy to answer all of our questions as they worked. Thank you. 9/10/26 Thank you for your hard work replacing 2 water heaters today!

They are very friendly and only repair what's needed to be repaired. They made the repair and left me feeling like I didn't get taken advantage of.

I called to ask for a general price range for replacing a P-trap. They told me they would not provide any pricing information unless they first sent a master plumber out for a $120 service call. I even asked what the *lowest* possible cost for a basic P-trap replacement would be, just so I could have some idea of what to expect, and they still refused to answer. That made me uncomfortable. I understand that an exact quote may require seeing the job in person, but refusing to provide even a starting price or rough range felt unnecessarily vague. I didn't feel comfortable paying $120 upfront without having any idea what I might ultimately be charged, so I decided not to move forward with them.

Sean and Andrew were great. I came home from work one day to discover water damage to my bathroom ceiling. Sean came out quickly to assess the situation. He was able to get someone out to remediate right away. Once the cleanup was complete, Andrew came out to do some further investigate and was able to successfully identify the water source in my very old condo building in Brighton. Both were very friendly and professional. Highly recommended!

So wanted to give an update to a 2 star review i left for Akian for work done about a month ago. I had two gripes: Call center customer service and dispatch and high pricing. I have to give their management credit: They saw my review, reached out and yesterday service manage Jeff called me. It's rare these days for someone to really listen to how things looked on my side of the road and to Jeff's credit he did that. Not only that we reached and agreement regarding what i felt was high pricing two two of the three components they replaced on my AC system. In addition he mentioned that they are moving away from the foreign call center customer service--this is a good thing. Who wants to feel if they get disconnected they can't call the person back? All this reassured me that despite some issues they are getting themselves on track and that they cared enough to make things right for me.

Carlos came today to troubleshoot my central AC. which stopped working yesterday. He was very upfront saying that he was unfamiliar with my particular set up. However, with assistance from his office, he was able to diagnose and fix the issue. It was not a simple 1-2-3 due to the poor initial installation from another company 9 years ago. He was diligent looking for solutions and was able to get the AC working. Part of the issue was the thermostat, which he replaced. I will make Akian my go-to company for my system. thank you Carlos. It is only a 4 because I was hoping for same day services yesterday.

Do not call if you actually have an emergency. Called them around 5pm this afternoon, told them my toilet was leaking all over the floor and that I was on the ground floor of a multi-floor condominium building. They opened a ticket and said someone would be out between 6pm and midnight. Called around 6:30 to see if there was an update, because even with the water turned off I had about 2 inches of water leaking out onto the floor. She said the plumber was finishing up a call then heading to me. I called an hour later and she said "oh, we don't service multi-floor buildings you will have to call someone else but they NEVER called to tell me. Wasted two hours waiting for a plumber that was never coming, causing damage to the bathroom floor and the carpeting in the hallway.

My first time using Akian for my HVAC maintenance. James G. was friendly, knowledgeable, good at explaining and informative. Much appreciated. I also appreciate that the company sent out a reminder text for the appointment with a picture of the service person. Consider me a new customer of Akian who will be requesting James G. every time! Thank you.

We had an AC system that was not running, so we scheduled an appointment with Akian. Matt showed up on schedule, diagnosed the problem, and completed the necessary work quickly and at a reasonable price. We have used Akian in the past and continue to be very happy with their service. We will call them again for plumbing and HVAC issues in the future.

Sean C. and his assistant Berkeley came by on schedule and assessed the rusting flange on my toilet. Gave me a couple of options and what he recommended. Toilet installed and working well. The key items for the five star rating was their professional mannerism and attention to cleanliness (wearing shoe covers, wiping up spilt water, taking all trash with them, and most of all, they are pleasant people.). Thanks Akian Plumbing.

Smart Power Solutions: Which Charger Fits Your Lifestyle?

Every driver has a unique routine, and your home charging setup should reflect that. While many vehicles come packaged with a basic cord, upgrading to a dedicated system radically changes your ownership experience. To help you determine the ideal setup for your daily commute, consider how these specific configurations align with your driving habits and your property’s electrical capacity.

Level 2 charging stations are the gold standard for residential properties, operating on a dedicated 240-volt circuit similar to a heavy-duty clothes dryer. This upgrade allows you to replenish 15 to 30 miles of range per hour, effectively delivering a full charge while you sleep. It is the most practical, time-saving solution for active families and daily commuters across Suffolk County.

Before mounting a high-speed charging dock, your home must have the electrical capacity to support it without overloading your main system. A comprehensive electrical panel assessment determines if your existing service can manage the additional 40 to 50 amps required by a modern Level 2 station. If your system is maxed out, a seamless panel upgrade ensures your home remains safe and fully operational.

Modern smart chargers feature integrated Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to track energy consumption, schedule charging during off-peak utility hours, and monitor your battery via a smartphone app. These units offer incredible flexibility, letting you optimize electricity rates and reduce your overall carbon footprint automatically. Investing in a smart unit ensures your home infrastructure remains compatible with future technological shifts.

Comprehensive Electrical Load Capacity Assessments

Installing a high-powered electrical device requires a deep look at what happens behind your drywall. Our certified electricians begin every project in Waltham and Arlington with a meticulous load calculation of your home’s electrical panel. We analyze your current electrical consumption—factoring in large appliances like HVAC units, water heaters, and kitchen equipment—to determine exactly how much headroom your panel has left.

If your home currently operates on an older 100-amp service, adding a continuous heavy load like an EV charging dock can push the system past its safe operating limits. Should our assessment reveal that your panel is nearing maximum capacity, we provide clear options for service upgrades. Transitioning to a 200-amp or 400-amp panel not only secures a safe environment for your new vehicle charger but also future-proofs your property for upcoming electrical renovations, air conditioning upgrades, or green energy additions.

Expert Installation of Top-Tier Charging Equipment

The physical installation of your charging station involves much more than just mounting a bracket to a stud. Our team handles the precise routing of heavy-duty electrical conduit from your main breaker panel directly to your preferred parking location, whether that is inside a garage in Newton or alongside an outdoor driveway in Belmont. We utilize premium-grade materials, including robust double-pole breakers, heavy-gauge copper wiring, and weather-resistant enclosures designed to withstand severe New England winters.

We are fully versed in installing the industry’s leading charging hardware, including the widely adopted NACS (North American Charging Standard) connectors and traditional CCS plugs. Our familiarization with brands like ChargePoint, Wallbox, and Tesla Wall Connectors ensures that your specific hardware is calibrated to deliver the exact amperage your vehicle requires. We manage the entire permit process with local municipal building departments, ensuring that every wire, junction box, and safety disconnect complies perfectly with the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Maximizing Safety with Dedicated Circuit Integration

Safety is our absolute priority when dealing with continuous high-voltage electrical loads. An EV charger pulls a massive, steady stream of electricity for hours at a time, which is completely different from intermittent appliances like microwaves or vacuum cleaners. Because of this sustained energy draw, your charging station cannot share power with any other outlet, light fixture, or appliance in your home.

Our technicians install a completely isolated, dedicated circuit breaker specifically for your vehicle’s charging station. This specialized setup prevents nuisance tripping, protects your home’s sensitive electronics from power surges, and eliminates the risk of overheating within your electrical walls. We also integrate crucial safety mechanisms, such as Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection and robust grounding rods, safeguarding both your physical property and your vehicle’s delicate onboard computer systems from unexpected electrical faults.

Future-Proofing for Multi-Vehicle and Commercial Properties

The shift toward electric mobility is accelerating rapidly, and many households find themselves transitioning from a single electric vehicle to an entirely electric fleet. Our forward-thinking design strategies help you plan for tomorrow’s energy needs today. We can configure advanced load-sharing systems that allow two separate chargers to communicate intelligently, dynamically balancing the available electrical current between two vehicles parked side-by-side without overloading your main electrical panel.

For property managers and business owners across Middlesex County, we also provide commercial-grade charging installations. Adding accessible infrastructure to your retail space, office building, or multi-family residential complex attracts premium tenants, boosts employee satisfaction, and increases overall property values. We help you select commercial hardware featuring robust payment processing integration, rugged anti-vandalism housing, and detailed energy management software to effortlessly track usage across multiple users.

Longevity and Performance: Post-Installation Support

Our commitment to your clean energy journey doesn’t conclude the moment the green indicator light flashes on your new charger. High-voltage charging equipment requires occasional check-ups to maintain optimal efficiency and safety over years of constant exposure to heavy electrical current and temperature swings. Akian offers comprehensive diagnostic and maintenance services to ensure your equipment operates at peak performance throughout its lifespan.

If you ever notice a drop in charging speeds, error codes on your unit’s display, or physical wear on the charging coupler or heavy-duty cable, our rapid-response team is ready to assist. We perform thermal imaging tests to identify hidden hotspots in your breaker panel, check terminal connections for tightness, and verify that the firmware on your smart charger is fully updated. Keeping your infrastructure meticulously maintained protects your vehicle’s expensive battery investment and provides total peace of mind every single time you plug in.

Ensure Your Middlesex County Home Electrical Panel Meets EV Charger Standards

As experts in home electrical systems, we understand the crucial role that a robust electrical panel plays in accommodating electric vehicle (EV) chargers. In Middlesex County, the growing demand for EVs necessitates that homeowners assess their panels for capacity and safety compliance. With years of industry experience, we provide comprehensive inspections and recommendations to ensure your home is not only ready for an EV charger but also adheres to local code requirements, ultimately preserving your property's value and enhancing your investment in sustainable technology.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a panel upgrade to install a Level 2 EV charger at my home?

Not always, but it depends heavily on your home's existing service capacity and electrical load. Many older homes in Watertown, MA, and Waltham operate on 100-amp panels, which may not safely handle the continuous 40 to 50-amp draw required by a Level 2 station alongside appliances like electric water heaters or central AC. Akian provides professional load calculations to evaluate your system and can seamlessly perform a panel upgrade if necessary.

What is the difference between a Level 1 and a Level 2 EV charging station?

The primary difference is charging speed and voltage supply. A Level 1 charger plugs into a standard 120V wall outlet and only delivers 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. A professional Level 2 charger installation utilizes a dedicated 240V circuit—similar to a heavy-duty clothes dryer line—and adds 15 to 30 miles of range per hour, allowing homeowners across Middlesex County to fully charge their vehicles overnight.

Can Akian install smart EV chargers that link with mobile apps?

Yes. Our certified electrical team handles the technical setup and hardware configuration for advanced smart EVSE systems. These modern, Wi-Fi-enabled charging docks let you track energy consumption via your smartphone, receive diagnostic alerts, and schedule your vehicle to refuel during off-peak hours to minimize local utility rates in areas like Belmont and Newton.

Will a Level 2 residential EV charger work with any brand of electric vehicle?

Yes, modern high-speed charging units are incredibly versatile. We install hardware compatible with both the traditional CCS connection ports and the widely adopted NACS (North American Charging Standard) connectors utilized by Tesla and most major manufacturers. Our electrical experts ensure that the wiring, double-pole breaker, and heavy-duty conduit perfectly match the exact voltage parameters of your electric vehicle fleet.

Does Akian pull local electrical permits for charging station installations?

Absolutely. As a premier licensed plumbing and electrical provider serving Suffolk County, Middlesex County, and town lines like Arlington, MA, Akian manages the entire local municipal permitting process. This guarantees that your dedicated charging circuit, grounding rods, and safety mechanisms are 100% compliant with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and fully preserve your vehicle's factory warranty.
