My Mitsubishi system wasn't responsive and I couldn't figure out the problem. Carlos from Akian came through and checked it out. We found out the breaker was the issue. They got an electrician on site and replaced the breaker within an hour. Carlos also ran a diagnostic and got my system running perfectly. Great communication and follow through. Update to the update. I am sticking with Akian. They are a big company with many competent technicians. They respond timely. They do their best to make customers happy. It's hard to know when things fail where the fault falls. But they have been responsive and they have fixed issues with little to no charge as appropriate. See below for history.

Update to my original review. Some years later, after having them install new heater, water heater, and AC.

The heater that akian has since installed 3 years ago has run into problems every year since. One time, one of the vent pipes was not attached properly. It was under 1year since the installation so they fixed it for free. Nex time, it was an issue with exhaust piping. Must have been some other installation errors but since it had been more than a year since installation; we were charged for the repair. And now again, we have cold air blowing from the system and I am calling them.

Side story. For the exhaust issue, the first technician they sent misidentified the problem claiming it was because our vents were not fully open. Then Manny, the technician who I praised in my original review was sent; he identified and corrected the problem. So turns out not everyone in their employ is the same.

I call about a heating system emergency; our furnace is broken on a cold week. Their earliest availability is in four days. But since it is an emergency, they make some calls, and send over someone immediately. In this day and age, when HVAC companies rarely respond or show up.

Manny comes over, identifies the problem, and fixes it. All along, he is honest about what he may or may not be able to do. We are lucky, the current problem was solvable. But he points out that the heater is old. He lays out options for the future; we may replace the flame sensor that caused the current problem if the same issue arises; we should consider a complete system replacements; and he has identified a list of worn out parts if we want to try to extend life of existing system. No pushiness, no BS, just reasonable opinions.

I can't know if all their technicians are as knowledgable and capable as Manny. But next time we have HVAC needs, we are calling Akian again.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AT ALL!

The company quoted me a $129 diagnostic fee. However, when the technician arrived, he barely did anything other than take a quick look at the equipment. He then told me that the $129 only covered his less-than-30-minute inspection, and that if I wanted any further service, I would have to pay an additional $249.

This was completely different from the information I received when I initially contacted the company. To make matters worse, the technician refused to provide me with a quote. I explained that I did not want to be nickel-and-dimed with one charge after another, but he showed absolutely no understanding.

His attitude was extremely unprofessional. He acted as though he would refuse to do anything at all unless I agreed to pay the additional $249.

In the end, I decided to pay the $129 just to get him to leave. This was an incredibly frustrating experience, and I felt pressured into paying for virtually nothing.

Disappointing Experience – Unexpected Fees and Poor Communication

I scheduled an HVAC diagnostic appointment with Akian after being told by their office that the diagnostic fee would be waived if I decided to proceed with the recommended repair after receiving an estimate.

However, when the technician arrived, I was told a significantly higher diagnostic fee would apply, that it would not be waived even if I proceeded with the repair, and that I would not receive a repair estimate unless I agreed to pay the higher fee. This was completely different from what had been communicated when I scheduled the appointment.

My main frustration is the lack of communication and transparency between the office and the technician. I specifically confirmed the pricing and process before booking so I could make an informed decision about whether to proceed with repairs. Extremely Disappointing Service -- Poor Communication, Questionable Pricing, and a Complete Lack of Follow-Through

I hired this company to address a water leak in my steam heating system. Initially, I believed the problem was with two steam vents that I had purchased myself but was unable to remove because they were seized.

The company charged me $450 to install two vents that I supplied, a job that took approximately one hour. Unfortunately, replacing the vents did not resolve the problem. We subsequently identified what appeared to be a clogged line beneath one of the vents.

I requested an estimate to repair the problem and was instead given a proposal to replace both lines for approximately $2,150. When I asked why both needed replacing when only one appeared to be clogged, the technician's explanation was simply that the other one could eventually clog.

I explained that I wasn't comfortable spending that amount of money unnecessarily and that, as the homeowner, I believed it was my prerogative to determine what work I wanted performed. I also indicated that I might seek another estimate. Later that evening, I spoke with the technician again and explained that I would like to move forward, but requested a revised estimate to replace only the clogged line. He assured me he would speak with the office and get back to me.

A week passed. Nothing.

What followed was an extraordinarily frustrating exercise in trying to communicate with this company. Their telephone system requires you to leave a message and wait for someone to return your call, with no indication of when that might happen. If you're unavailable when they call, the entire process starts over.

The only person with whom I was able to maintain any consistent communication was the manager of their answering service, primarily through text messages. Eventually, he provided a revised price of $1,850 to replace just the one clogged line.

This raised yet another concern. The original estimate was $2,150 to replace both lines. Removing what I understood to be approximately 60% of the proposed work resulted in a price reduction of only $300, or roughly 14%. I also asked the manager whether he had the original estimate prepared by the technician so we could compare the two proposals. He responded that they were attempting to contact the technician.

I never received the original estimate, an explanation of the pricing, or any meaningful follow-up. Once again, communication stalled. Finally, arrangements were made for someone from their service department to call and discuss my concerns. I explained that I would be available around noon, and they agreed to call at approximately that time.

I sat with my phone in my lap from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m., waiting for a call that never came.

What makes this especially troubling is that I have three family members living in my home, a steam heating system that needs repair, and winter approaching. This is not a cosmetic improvement or an optional renovation. It is a necessary repair to keep my home heated.

I cannot help but come away with the impression that this company is more interested in the size of the job than in providing responsible, attentive service to its customers. Whether that is actually their motivation, I cannot say, but their conduct has certainly left me feeling that way.

I have no objection to paying a fair price for professional work. What I do object to is being encouraged to authorize work that has not been adequately justified, receiving a revised price that raises legitimate questions, and then being repeatedly ignored when I ask for an explanation.

My recommendation is simple: Look elsewhere.

I cannot recommend this company strongly enough as one to avoid. Their questionable recommendations, unexplained pricing, repeated failures to communicate, disregard for scheduled callbacks, and apparent indifference to a customer facing a legitimate heating problem have been profoundly disappointing.

A company that charges professional rates should be expected to deliver professional service, accountability, and communication. In my experience, this company failed on all three counts.

I called Akian plumbing to help me identify a leak. I had already opened up the ceiling of the floor below my bathroom, and they found the toilet flange was deteriorated. They came back in two days to remove the toilet and replace the flange which has resolved the leak. Absolutely horrible.
Repeatedly reschedules due to their own errors and takes multiple trips to fix an issue to drive up their hours.
Customer service is terrible and unresponsive after 4:30 and they offer no weekend support.
