Very happy with the service. The plumber arrived on time, explained everything that would be done and approximately how long it would take. He was very courteous and put a tarp down and wore shoe coverings while working. I will definitely use this company again.

Update to the update. I am sticking with Akian. They are a big company with many competent technicians. They respond timely. They do their best to make customers happy. It's hard to know when things fail where the fault falls. But they have been responsive and they have fixed issues with little to no charge as appropriate. See below for history.

----
Update to my original review. Some years later, after having them install new heater, water heater, and AC.

The heater that akian has since installed 3 years ago has run into problems every year since. One time, one of the vent pipes was not attached properly. It was under 1year since the installation so they fixed it for free. Nex time, it was an issue with exhaust piping. Must have been some other installation errors but since it had been more than a year since installation; we were charged for the repair. And now again, we have cold air blowing from the system and I am calling them.

Side story. For the exhaust issue, the first technician they sent misidentified the problem claiming it was because our vents were not fully open. Then Manny, the technician who I praised in my original review was sent; he identified and corrected the problem. So turns out not everyone in their employ is the same.

-------
I call about a heating system emergency; our furnace is broken on a cold week. Their earliest availability is in four days. But since it is an emergency, they make some calls, and send over someone immediately. In this day and age, when HVAC companies rarely respond or show up.

Manny comes over, identifies the problem, and fixes it. All along, he is honest about what he may or may not be able to do. We are lucky, the current problem was solvable. But he points out that the heater is old. He lays out options for the future; we may replace the flame sensor that caused the current problem if the same issue arises; we should consider a complete system replacements; and he has identified a list of worn out parts if we want to try to extend life of existing system. No pushiness, no BS, just reasonable opinions.

I can't know if all their technicians are as knowledgable and capable as Manny. But next time we have HVAC needs, we are calling Akian again.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY AT ALL!

The company quoted me a $129 diagnostic fee. However, when the technician arrived, he barely did anything other than take a quick look at the equipment. He then told me that the $129 only covered his less-than-30-minute inspection, and that if I wanted any further service, I would have to pay an additional $249.

This was completely different from the information I received when I initially contacted the company. To make matters worse, the technician refused to provide me with a quote. I explained that I did not want to be nickel-and-dimed with one charge after another, but he showed absolutely no understanding.

His attitude was extremely unprofessional. He acted as though he would refuse to do anything at all unless I agreed to pay the additional $249.

In the end, I decided to pay the $129 just to get him to leave. This was an incredibly frustrating experience, and I felt pressured into paying for virtually nothing.

Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. I strongly recommend avoiding this company’s services!

Disappointing Experience – Unexpected Fees and Poor Communication

I scheduled an HVAC diagnostic appointment with Akian after being told by their office that the diagnostic fee would be waived if I decided to proceed with the recommended repair after receiving an estimate.

However, when the technician arrived, I was told a significantly higher diagnostic fee would apply, that it would not be waived even if I proceeded with the repair, and that I would not receive a repair estimate unless I agreed to pay the higher fee. This was completely different from what had been communicated when I scheduled the appointment.

My main frustration is the lack of communication and transparency between the office and the technician. I specifically confirmed the pricing and process before booking so I could make an informed decision about whether to proceed with repairs. Instead, I was put in an uncomfortable position during the appointment.

We recently had our hot water heater replaced after our previous heater failed and flooded our basement. We couldn't be happier with the entire experience! From start to finish, the process was smooth, efficient, and professional. Manny and his team arrived right on time, carefully removed the old unit, and installed the new heater with expert precision. Manny had made our job a priority.

The new hot water heater works flawlessly, providing consistent, hot water with impressive energy efficiency. Manny was friendly, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain how to maintain the system and the automatic water shutoff.

Overall, this replacement has brought us peace of mind knowing we have a reliable source of hot water for our home. We highly recommend this service to anyone in need of a quality water heater upgrade! Akian had also replaced our gas furnace at the end of 2024 and had the same excellent service.

Matt B. is exceptional and has an encyclopedic knowledge of boiler systems. He can answer questions about every permutation of considerations in the lead up to purchasing an efficient, safe new boiler. We were pleasantly surprised by his fluency and responsiveness when we peppered him with over an hour of questions and the company’s patience with us in considering a major purchase. I would highly recommend Matt and Akian Plumbing.

AJ and TJ's work was high-quality - they installed a gas boiler heating system. Prompt, professional, hard-working - would use Akian and AJ & TJ again.

Absolutely horrible.
Repeatedly reschedules due to their own errors and takes multiple trips to fix an issue to drive up their hours.
Customer service is terrible and unresponsive after 4:30 and they offer no weekend support.
We have been without hot water for over two weeks because of the company but charged over $1000+.

They are very friendly and only repair what's needed to be repaired. They made the repair and left me feeling like I didn't get taken advantage of.

I called to ask for a general price range for replacing a P-trap. They told me they would not provide any pricing information unless they first sent a master plumber out for a $120 service call.

I even asked what the *lowest* possible cost for a basic P-trap replacement would be, just so I could have some idea of what to expect, and they still refused to answer.

That made me uncomfortable. I understand that an exact quote may require seeing the job in person, but refusing to provide even a starting price or rough range felt unnecessarily vague. I didn't feel comfortable paying $120 upfront without having any idea what I might ultimately be charged, so I decided not to move forward with them.

Sean and Andrew were great. I came home from work one day to discover water damage to my bathroom ceiling. Sean came out quickly to assess the situation. He was able to get someone out to remediate right away. Once the cleanup was complete, Andrew came out to do some further investigate and was able to successfully identify the water source in my very old condo building in Brighton. Both were very friendly and professional. Highly recommended!

So wanted to give an update to a 2 star review i left for Akian for work done about a month ago. I had two gripes: Call center customer service and dispatch and high pricing.
I have to give their management credit: They saw my review, reached out and yesterday service manage Jeff called me. It's rare these days for someone to really listen to how things looked on my side of the road and to Jeff's credit he did that. Not only that we reached and agreement regarding what i felt was high pricing two two of the three components they replaced on my AC system.
In addition he mentioned that they are moving away from the foreign call center customer service--this is a good thing. Who wants to feel if they get disconnected they can't call the person back? All this reassured me that despite some issues they are getting themselves on track and that they cared enough to make things right for me.

Carlos came today to troubleshoot my central AC. which stopped working yesterday. He was very upfront saying that he was unfamiliar with my particular set up. However, with assistance from his office, he was able to diagnose and fix the issue. It was not a simple 1-2-3 due to the poor initial installation from another company 9 years ago. He was diligent looking for solutions and was able to get the AC working. Part of the issue was the thermostat, which he replaced. I will make Akian my go-to company for my system. thank you Carlos. It is only a 4 because I was hoping for same day services yesterday.

Do not call if you actually have an emergency. Called them around 5pm this afternoon, told them my toilet was leaking all over the floor and that I was on the ground floor of a multi-floor condominium building. They opened a ticket and said someone would be out between 6pm and midnight. Called around 6:30 to see if there was an update, because even with the water turned off I had about 2 inches of water leaking out onto the floor. She said the plumber was finishing up a call then heading to me. I called an hour later and she said "oh, we don't service multi-floor buildings you will have to call someone else but they NEVER called to tell me. Wasted two hours waiting for a plumber that was never coming, causing damage to the bathroom floor and the carpeting in the hallway.
